EcoDiver is the volunteer who helps Reef Check to deliver its citizen science program and collect data necessary for coral reef management and conservation.
This course is designed to teach you everything you need to know to conduct full-scale Reef Check surveys and collect high-quality data for our global database.
You will learn about marine conservation issues, the role of citizen science, as well as how to identify key indicators fish, invertebrates, and substrates selected by Reef Check for assessing coral reef health. Upon completion of this course, you will join the Reef Check monitoring team and assist in underwater surveys around the world.
Importance of coral reefs, environmental factors, threats, and solutions, Important of coral reef monitoring, history of Reef Check, EcoDiver survey method, and identification of target species.
Fish monitoring method, fish Indicators, and fish identification area.
Basic Reef Check survey categories, hard coral, soft coral, nutrient indicator algae, sponge, other marine organisms, and nonliving components.
Invertebrate monitoring method, Indicator invertebrates, Impacts, coral bleaching, coral diseases, and coral damage
Identification of reef check indicators in different locations in the Egyptian Red Sea: Marsa Alam, Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab and Safari.
Conducting underwater survey by collecting the official data at two different contour depths, and get credit to the ecodivers.
Reef Check EcoDiver E-Kit (will be provided by the trainer as part of the course).
