PADI Coral Reefs Monitoring Survey

PADI Coral Reefs

Monitoring Survey

Duration: 50 Hours

Location: Marine Eco Expedition & Hurghada

ACADEMIC

The purpose of the PADI Coral Reefs Monitoring Survey Specialty Diver Course is to facilitate the assessment of the status of coral reef communities and their associated flora and fauna in a repeatable and relatively inexpensive manner. Also to help managers of coral reefs select appropriate ecological monitoring programs, protocols, and methods for your coral reef management needs and advice on monitoring, especially: how monitoring can help management; how to choose the best methods to suit your need; and the advantage and disadvantage of monitoring methods.

The goals of Coral Reefs Monitoring Survey training are:

  • Definitions for coral reefs monitoring and surveys.

  • Identify threats, and what to monitor on coral reefs.

  • Understand the importance of monitoring that can help coral reefs.

  • Determine the suitable type of methods to use for coral reefs monitoring and survey.

  • Measure the environmental variables in the study site.

  • Understand how to do a pilot survey for a study site.

  • Selection of a coral reef site.

  • Simulate the manta tow survey method around a reef.

  • Conduct line intercept transect method.

  • Conduct point intercept transect using reef check.

  • Simulate video transect method.

  • Conduct visual quadrate method.

  • Simulate the photo quadrate method.

  • Simulate coral recruitment quadrate method.

  • Conduct coral reef fish visual census method.

  • Conduct fish roving diver technique.

  • Coral health general observation.

  • Coral bleaching general observation.

  • Coral diseases general observation.

  • Perform Reef Check protocol for a coral reef site.

  • Tagging coral colonies.

  • Aware of how to put monitoring programs together.

  • Conduct a survey project for a coral reef site project.
