Marine Mammal Observer (MMO)

Marine Mammal Observer (MMO)

Diploma

Duration: 25 Hours

ACADEMIC

A marine mammal observer (MMO) is a professional in environmental consulting who specialized in monitoring whales, dolphins, and other marine mammals and helps to reduce the negative impacts of operations on marine wildlife.

This course is designed to teach you everything you need to know the knowledge overview about the marine mammals and fieldwork training onboard for a few days. Human impacts of operations like pressure waves from seismic sources, explosives, and pile-driving, can potentially disturb marine life in the vicinity. These pressure waves particularly affect whales, dolphins, porpoises, seals, turtles, and seabirds – all of which use sound to communicate for breeding, migration, and feeding.

FIELDWORK

In this course during our marine eco expedition, you will learn about marine mammal observation from boat-based surveys and from underwater. Upon completion of this course, you can enroll in any marine project to monitor marine mammals everywhere in the world.
